What is Gastrin ?

Gastrin is a hormone produced by the stomach that plays an important regulatory role in the gastrointestinal tract. Gastrin promotes the digestive process primarily by stimulating gastric mucosal cells to secrete gastric acid and pepsin. In addition, gastrin can also promote gastrointestinal peristalsis, increase gastrointestinal blood circulation, and promote the repair and regeneration of gastrointestinal mucosa. Gastrin secretion is influenced by food intake, neuromodulation, and other hormones.

The importance of Gastrin screening 

Gastrin is of certain importance in screening for gastric diseases. Because gastrin secretion is affected by food intake, neuromodulation, and other hormones, gastrin levels can be measured to assess the functional status of the stomach.
